The snow is gone and it still cold in the mornings but our hearts have been quite warm thinking back on our summer Vacation Bible School. It will be soon be time for VBS once again. To help us remember all the great times we are having a Lenten Fair of crafts and food on February 18th from 5-7. Yes, we have great memories from our July 10th through 14th event and have been talking about it everywhere we can. We sang a lot of camp songs at our recent Rally Day. This has been called Day Camp in the past but now it is more like VBS as we gathered in the evening from 5:45-8:30. Our overall theme was HOLY TRINITY WHOLLY LOVE. Revelations 22:13 was the text for the week - “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. We have a different emphasis for each day. 1---who is God the creator 2---who is Jesus 3---who is the Holy Spirit 4---Who am I 5---Who are we
It may be cool out but we have a lot of warm memories from our Day Camp 2022. It was a fantastic week, thanks to all the good planning ahead of time. A number of our youth spent many hours working on music and skits for the event. We met every evening at Day Camp from 5:45-8:30 and learned about how God is boundless. Our theme was “Boundless” and God shows us this through boundless goodness, boundless love, boundless welcoming, boundless forgiveness and boundless generosity. We will be talking about this day camp for a long time.
Looking back, our 2021 camp was also something very special for us. People are still humming songs and doing motions from the action songs at our camp. We sing a lot of them at Sunday School opening each Sunday. The 12th - 16th of July was full of activity and fun life in the Lord. We expanded on what we did last year when we were able to get together with a few of our youth on the St. Jacob lawn. We had great songs, repeat after me skits, games, crafts, prayers and terrific Bible studies based on the theme “From Generation to Generation.” We had terrific conversations about Biblical characters Sarah and Abraham, Joseph, David, Mary, Silas, Lydia and Paul. It was a wonderful week and we were thrilled to be able to do it even without our good friends from LOMO (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Ohio). We look forward to having them with us next year. Until then, we will do all we can to continue to keep things going with active children sermons, camp songs, puppets and also some new colorful rocks for our picnic table area.
Looking back even farther, what a great week of Day Camp it was in 2019. We were here July 8-12 from 9-3 each day. To prepare for the week we collected lots of important needs with our “giving tree”. We also collected a lot of things for other people with our white bucket challenge to help with tornado relief. Our Day Camp was staffed by energetic and specially trained young adults from LOMO (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Ohio). The theme was “Transformed Community: God’s Agents of C.H.A.N.G.E.” Can you believe we have been doing this for nearly a quarter of a century?
Miamisburg has a new rock garden and it reminded us of the nice rocks we have been collecting for years in our picnic table area during Day Camp. Many thanks to all who continue to contribute rocks for our special area.
